Considered to be the smallest post office in the United States, this building was formerly an irrigation pipe shed belonging to the J.T. Gaunt tomato farm.  It was pressed into service by Postmaster Sydney Brown after a fire in 1953 burned Ochopee's general store and post office.

Real photo postcard, c1945.  The Chokoloskee school boat made regular stops at the Smallwood Store.  This boat served Chokoloskee Island residents until 1955, when the causeway to the mainland was completed.  A school bus carried pupils after that date.
