The Naples Mosquito Control District (NMCD) was formed in November 1950. By January 1965, the first of several twin engine Beechcraft D-185 (Twin Beeches) was purchased and outfitted with insecticide tanks and nozzles. Later in the 1960s, NMCD leased helicopters. In the 1970s, they changed their name to Collier Mosquito Control District to reflect the expansion of services.
